responsibility of a Graphic Designer

In the past week I have been chosen as the graphic designer to run a final project for the subject history of new media. My main task is to:

• design the layout of user interface.
• design the typography of the text.
• search the reference of the layout's design .

Contemporary Art

I chose this picture for my contemporary art, this picture is the 'pintu jentere' on the design pattern of traditional Malay village. The design of 'pintu jentere' represents the heritage of the local Malay villages in the use of brown color and the use of wood. In addition, the 'door jentere which is located here as a' welcome 'to visitors and to reflect the culture of hospitality that is practiced by the people.

Malaysian Artist

I know a great local artist in Malaysia, whose name was Leon Lim. Leon Lim is an artist, designer and photographer who was schooled in Singapore and now lives in New York City. As i know he has been profoundly deaf since birth and disability in itself was cause him developed a strong sense of seeing.
As an artist Lim has been created paintings and sculptures to interior/architectural models and graphic design to multimedia and art installations and photographs.

Why do I choose Lim as an example artist of learning? This is because of his first art work 'The Recycled Head Anatomy in George Town, Penang'.


Leon Lim has given me guidance in learning to produce an art work, to produce 'The Recycled Head Anatomy in George Town, Penang', he collects any wasteful and damaged materials, such as plastic film and video footage, and broken glasses. It teach me all the knowledge I receive is a source of inspiration for me to produce more creative art work.

What I understand about graffiti art is all about an expression the feeling or elaborate wall painting , it's also call wall painting. The words Graffiti is from the Italian 'sgraffio' meaning 'scratch' . Graffiti has existed since the beginning of mankind, during ancient time, the ancient were mostly carved into the cave wall with bones or stone.Graffiti arts is very unique because the technique of graffiti art is free to draw or develop without any constraints, and stickers, posters, stencils, airbrush and oil-based chalk.





In other words,graffiti art is also the way people communicate the message of the painting to the community, such as the information I founded by reading material that I know some of the artists like Rough, Virgin, Caru, Glub.... I found that they developed their own style from his lively graffiti experience. Besides that, there is also the way of many artists who want to sought recognition via graffiti art or wanted to communicate with the passer-by or shape their environment without any constraints to emphasize the beauty and value of the objects they paints.

Graffiti art is also resistance movements as a way of publicizing their protests to the general public, for example is 'The White Rose' a group of German nonconformists who spoke out against Hitler and his regime in 1942 through leaflets and painted slogans, until their capture in 1943. Graffiti is the way of people to communicate social and political message , it also the refection of urban lives and culture but if people who defacing property with graffiti without the property owner's consent is considered vandalism!

I understand that new media art is about art that we are doing with new media technologies, including computer graphics, computer animation, interactive technology. The existence of new media art is derived from the visual arts, for example in the past we use computers, this is only a transformation due to technological advances.

New media art is the interaction between the artists with the society. Artist are presenting the message to the recipient through the visual art and the society is received the messages conveyed by the artists and aesthetic evaluation of these artists. Besides that now the challenge of new media art is in the research projects to improved documentation for the heritage preserved.


Design in new art media in developing global country is the 'added value' is increasingly being recognized as an essential tool for economic competitiveness for both developed and developing countries in the global market. For design commentators including Clive Dilnot and John Heskett, this pragmatic approach has had strong implications for the development of a design culture within an increasingly globalized system of design, production and consumption, new art media in design were essentially determined by global.
